The El Paso County Parks Department is currently working to secure the sunshade structure over the recently constructed sitting area on the upper west side of the pickleball courts. Based on our nonprofit mission, PPPA helped co-fund this needed project given the limited natural cover at this venue. With the onset of winter weather, El Paso County anticipates the sunshade to be installed Spring 2024 after they receive final building permit approval. PPPA and EPC have worked closely to secure this structure and look forward to the installation with warmer days ahead in the Spring!
This same public-private partnership is continuing to evaluate and secure funding sources for additional Pickleball courts at Bear Creek possibly as early as 2025.
Meg Duncan, Special Project Director
The following is an update to an article published in the November 26, 2023 Blast.
We’re all here because we love pickleball! The City (MVP and JVP) and County (Bear Creek) Parks Departments are doing a great job with new signage and closed/open signs at the various courts. While they are incredibly busy with the numerous parks across Colorado Spring and El Paso County, we are thankful that they are able to update their signage at the courts. Currently, we don’t have notifications from them as to when courts reopen and driving to the facilities is the only way of knowing whether or not the courts are open. As we navigate through this new system, we are hopeful that we can come up with a solution to communicate to all of you the status of the courts.
Until then, keep in mind that the only one who is clearing the courts at this time is Mother Nature. If there is snow in your yard, most likely there is snow on the courts.
A message from our Membership Director.
A few members and I took a series of online workshops this year from Better Pickleball (CJ & Tony). The workshop provided excellent instructional videos including:
Early on, we learned that the secret to improving our skills wasn't to play more - but to drill, drill, drill - with proper technique. Our group has been meeting weekly to practice drills designed to help create muscle memory and ultimately improve our games. As a result, each one of us are experiencing increased levels of confidence, consistency and abilities due to a better understanding of the techniques, fundamentals and strategies of the game.
The Beginner Program is FREE and includes a Beginners Guide and access to 21 on-line instructional videos that would actually benefit all levels of players. (Additional courses which include live coaching calls, are also available; some for free - some for a fee.)
If you've been looking for a way to improve your skills and learn strategy, I encourage you to check out the courses available, as well as CJ and Tony's bios at https://betterpickleball.com . Please feel free share the link with family/friends that would also like to start playing Better Pickleball!
