PPPA – WEEKLY EMAIL BLAST
In this week's blast:
JULY’S NEW MEMBERS ORIENTATION “RESCHEDULED”
We would like to apologize to the New Members who braved the storm to show up for the New Members Orientation which was scheduled for this past Thursday. Unfortunately, the storm rolled in at a time which made it impossible to make a proper notification. Please join us for the next New Members Orientation which is scheduled for August 5 @ 4:30pm, the first Thursday in August. These are held the first Thursday of every month during the Spring and Summer. Once again, we apologize to anyone that was inconvenienced.

$20 A YEAR? WHAT DOES IT GET ME?
A PPPA member recently asked me that question. If they were wondering about the benefits of remaining a member of the PPPA, then you may be as well. Here is my attempt to elucidate what exactly we as members get for our $20 a year membership fee.
Please begin by determining where, exactly, you are in your Pickleball lifetime journey. Are you a beginner fresh out of free lessons? Are you a seasoned player that has been dinking and banging for years? Based on your self assessment the answer to the "what do I get" question varies.
Are you a spanking brand new player entering into this pickleball world all bright eyed and bushy tailed, just finished with your free introductory lessons, ready to get out there and excel at your newly acquired passion? If so, you get to participate in multiple sessions of guided play. You and three other beginners will pair up with one instructor, who will teach you the nuances of the game for as long as you deem you require the instructions. You also have the opportunity to enter into the world of Round Robins, where you can test your skills against others at your level, while developing friendships that last a lifetime. You can also compete in ladder play, furthering your spirit and lust for competition if that is where your love of the sport directs you. All of this for the price of only $20 a year. Which, by the way, is probably the lowest annual fee in the country.
Now, let’s move on to the more seasoned players, usually coming in at around the 4.0, 4.5 and 5.0 range. Yes, PPPA has all levels. Typically, players like you generally just want to go out and play, normally in planned groups of friends at or around your same skill level. In the past players like you have not normally wanted to participate in round robins, but I am hearing and people are saying, that this might be changing and we are taking steps to explore that option for you once again.
Generally, it is your group of players that asks the question of just what does the $20 Membership fee get you. Well, if playing for free at nice facilities would be worth anything, I truly believe that $20 a year would/should be a minimum price to pay to support the organization that is making that happen for you right here in your own neighborhood. Recent proof being the brand new 12 court state of the art facility that just opened at Bear Creek park. Have you been down to check it out? It's beautiful, if I do say so, myself.
Now, if you have taken the time to read this far, please note, that PPPA is very grateful for each and every one of you, it's loyal members, regardless of where you fall in this narrative. Without you none of what has been accomplished in this community would have been possible. We would like to thank you for your support and ask humbly for your continued support of PPPA, our local community and our Pickleball family.

THANK YOU PPPA BEAR CREEK PARK WORK PARTY !!
This is a special shout-out to the 20+ PPPA volunteers who helped purchase, transport and install the safety coverings for the Bear Creek Park Pickleball court fencing top-rails in time for the formal venue dedication on June 26th. Andy Vittetoe and Wendy Venturella helped purchase and haul in their pickup trucks 1200 linear feet of the drainage pipe used for the top-rail covering (that's 4 football fields worth of material). Wendy even had to run "the Gap" to Castle Rock to secure the last 300 feet for this project. In seven hours over two days, our PPPA volunteers measured, cut, seamed and installed the top-rail coverings and zip-tied them into place.
Please join me and our PPPA Board of Directors in thanking Wendy, Andy, Maria & Mike Lee, Zina & Joe Johnson, Mark Torreano, Steve Willis, Kayla Greenfield, Lela Rae Nemmers, Forrest Viahogeorge, Brian Casebeer, Bob Jepson, Jim Baker, Patrick Goring, Bob Paulsen, Charlie Rush, Steve Erickson, and Michael "Pancake" Chaussee for volunteering their valuable time and labor to complete this essential work for you our members and the public who will safely enjoy this, our newest local Pickleball venue

Of course, you will also meet other new members! Anyone who is struggling (new and old) to get connected in our 1,000-member group should come and find the perfect place to join in. Going forward these orientations will take place on the first Thursday of each month during our outdoor playing season. Keep your eyes posted on the website calendar for upcoming events. If you have your name tag, please wear it. All new members are welcome and encouraged to attend.
