PPPA – WEEKLY EMAIL BLAST
In this week's blast:
Many players wish to increase their pickleball skill level and choose to get private lessons and we have some great instructors listed on our website. Some of these instructors have given lessons at the Monument Valley Park (MVP) courts and to continue to use those courts, they must now comply with the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services (PRCS) permit process. We worked with PRCS to create a permit process that will give players access to private lessons, but not adversely impact others that use the courts. We were able to negotiate with PRCS due to the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) we established with them this year.
Instructors charging a fee for lessons must apply for a permit according to the established process. There will be a maximum of 6 instructors on a first-come first-served basis. All the instructors listed on our website have been informed and given the opportunity to apply. Lessons may only be conducted from 6-8 a.m. and noon – 6 p.m. Beginning April 12, Court #1 will be designated the Instructor Court and a sign will soon be posted there. Instructors that have permits have priority on that court during the designated hours and are exempt from paddling up if the courts are full. Permitted instructors will also have permission to hold a maximum of 3 clinics per year during those hours. They will coordinate with PPPA so their clinics and our programs are not in conflict. Instructors that are authorized to teach at MVP will be so designated on our website.
If anyone chooses to give a free lesson, they are not entitled to use the Instructor Court and will comply with the paddle up process when the courts are full.
Court #1 may be used by any players if it is not in use by an instructor during the designated hours. If players are on that court when instructors can use it, please be courteous and vacate the court when the instructor identifies him/herself and requests the use of the court for their lesson.
Instructors may also get a permit to teach lessons at John Venezia Park pickleball courts. PPPA does not have any agreement with PRCS on the use of those courts so instructors should contact PRCS directly for a permit.
El Paso County Parks also requires permits for fee-based instruction. We are working on that permit process with the County and will notify you when that is complete.
Anyone with questions, or any instructor that would like the instructions on how to apply for a permit for this year, please send an email to info@pikespeakpickleball.com.

APRIL is nomination month for PPPA Board positions! This being an odd year, Vice President, Secretary, Education and Training Director and Membership Director are open for nomination. Next year being an even year, we will do the same for President, Treasurer, Tournament Coordinator and our Special Projects Director. Election results for this year will be announced to our Membership in early June.
We will conduct our nomination search and vote for the open board positions of Vice President, Secretary, Education and Training Director and Membership Director whose job descriptions are attached below for your consideration. Each Board position is a two-year term beginning on July 1st. The current incumbents for each of these positions, except for Education and Training Director, are currently serving their first term and are all eligible to run for a second term.
To nominate yourself or someone else please send the nomination no later than May 1st via email to Charlie Rush, Nomination Committee Chairperson, at charleswrush@gmail.com.
A member of our Nominating Committee will contact anyone who is self-nominated, or nominated by another Association member, and ask for a short write up with your specific experience/qualifications to include in the formal ballot. Note that the elected Officers and Directors of PPPA have a responsibility to avoid financial and organizational conflicts of interest that impact their objectivity, or appearance thereof, in the conduct of their roles as Association Board Members. In accordance with “best practices” of the National Council for Nonprofits, the Principles & Practices for Nonprofit Excellence in Colorado, and the established policy of PPPA; each new or re-elected Board member will need to review and sign their individual annual Conflict of Interest disclosure in June of each year (see PPPA Policy 6, Part 1 & Part 2).
On the second Sunday in May (this year it’s the 9th), the completed ballot (job description, nominee names, and their qualifications) for these four 2021 Board positions will be sent to ALL CURRENT PPPA MEMBERS WITH A LISTED EMAIL ADDRESS. If you are sharing your email address (not recommended) you will have ONE vote from that address, and your vote will be due one week later on/before Sunday May 16th for tabulation by the Nominating Committee and announcement to our Membership in early June.
Additionally, the following PPPA committees are in need of a lead and/or a co-lead:
Your time, experience, enthusiasm would be most welcome. Our club now has 1067 active members and NEW AND EXPANDED PROGRAMS CANNOT BE OFFERED WITHOUT YOUR VOLUNTEER HELP. The more hands the better; the task then becomes smaller.
