PPPA – WEEKLY EMAIL BLAST

In this week's blast:

MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING WITH PRCS FOR MVP PICKLEBALL COURTS

We have been working with Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services (PRCS) over several months to finalize a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the pickleball courts at Monument Valley Park (MVP).  The MOU is a partnership agreement between PPPA and PRCS that will use the skills and assets of each organization to benefit the general public.

PPPA was a major donor in the establishment of the pickleball courts at Monument Valley Park and has, therefore, been granted the authorization to utilize the courts for PPPA programs and special events.  PPPA will have input regarding court usage rules, but PRCS will set and enforce those rules.

Some specifics from the MOU include:

  • Open play* hours are from 8 am to noon for all levels of players.  Outside of those hours players may get in games with permission from current players.  Courts may not be reserved during these hours.
  • From noon to 6 pm, PPPA may use courts 7-15, as needed, for scheduled PPPA activities, e.g., Round Robins, etc.
  • From 8 am to 10 pm the paddle-up system will be followed on all courts except for courts involved in PPPA scheduled activities.  The paddle-up system will be specified by the PPPA Board of Directors with the approval of PRCS.
  • PPPA will provide PRCS $750 from the proceeds of PPPA tournaments.  Those funds will be dedicated to pickleball court development, maintenance and improvements.

The MOU is posted on the PPPA website under About Us and you can read the entire agreement here.

A similar agreement has been reached with El Paso County Parks for the Bear Creek Courts that will open this spring.  It is also available on the website.

    *Open Play Process:

If less than a group of four players are waiting at the court you are playing on, be courteous and provide them with the needed players from your group for the next game. Player rotations may be decided at each court.

If less than a group of four players are waiting to play at a court, try to match the skill level of players on the court.

After Open Play hours (8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.), it is recommended but not required, that players follow the same court rules and etiquette as during Open Play hours.
