PPPA – WEEKLY EMAIL BLAST

In this week's blast:

  LOCKING/UNLOCKING OF COURTS AT MVP

Based on our meeting with Parks & Rec this past week, it has been determined that the gates at MVP will no longer be locked. The lights will still be available until 10:00 pm nightly. The security team will continue to monitor the facility to try and prevent any acts of vandalism. Based on some recent events, please be reminded that if there are any situations of violence at any park facilities, the police should be called by utilizing 911.

TROUGH SYSTEM AT MONUMENT VALLEY PARK AND HOW IT WORKS

If you are NEW to how the Trough System at MVP works, below is a brief overview:

  • The TROUGH system is used when the courts at MVP are full and there are players waiting for an open court.  Paddles are stacked (4 for doubles, 2 for singles) in the trough from left to right (see pic below); the paddles to the left go to the next open court and other paddles move to the left.
  • Games are played 1-11, win by 2 and then leave the court so the next group up can take the open court.
  • When you finish your game and leave the court, call out “COURT OPEN” and the group to the left in the Trough will go to the open court.
  • Let’s all be polite to one another and fair in our use and sharing of courts during the busy times of day at MVP.
  • Please continue to follow COVID protocols with social Distancing--6’ apart and if you are sick, stay home and don’t expose others.

UPDATE ON MONUMENT VALLEY PARK COURT MAINTENANCE

I spoke with Park & Rec’s Maintenance and Operations Manager regarding any plans for maintenance or upgrades to the Monument Valley Park pickleball courts.  I was informed that there was a 20% reduction in operating funds for the budget cycle we are currently in.  Subsequently, there are no funds to perform increased maintenance or upgrades to the courts.  Emptying the garbage cans and occasional leaf/dirt blowing are the only maintenance activities we can expect this year.

We were informed last year that there would be upgrades to the bathrooms near the courts.  That did not occur due to the impact COVID is having on sales tax revenues.  They may still be able to do the upgrades this year and will know by mid-February if they have the funds. We will keep you posted!
